Confessions of a Left-Hand Knitter

Exploring the Possibilities

HO Friday…a Day Later

Why do sleeves take FOREVER!!! I am finally finished the one sleeve on my Grandpa Cardigan, but I am concerned about fit. I love how it looks and feels, it is so squishy, but I feel like it is a bit tight. I am hoping with blocking it will stretch out.

However, we have a problem, I might need another ball of yarn for my last sleeve. Debating to buy yarn to finish and another sweater worth in a different color to make if I need a bigger size. This sweater flew off the needles.

I am excited to have a HO (a Half Off the needles project). My second gift sweater is stuck in sleeve limbo as well. I ripped out the bottom to add more inches to ensure better fit, meanwhile I am slowly progressing on sleeves. DAMN SLEEVES!!!!!

Does anyone have any finishing tips on fit?

FRIDAY UPDATES!!!!!

Sorry I missed last week WIP Wednesday. It was a hectic week and got I sick…again. This has been the worst season for me. I have been sick (on and off) since November. Anyhoo, I have been knitting up a strom. I started my Edinburgh Sweater on 1/29/18.

I will be going to Scotland in March!! I am so excited. I will be visiting family in England and will be living it up on this UK trip. The trip lined up perfectly with the Edinburgh Yarn Festival, so I brought an admission ticket to the marketplace. I will be there on Friday, March 16, 2018. So excited!! My first time to the UK and to a yarn fest.

Of course, I have been obsessed with knitting podcast on YouTube and notice the trend of knitting sweaters for these yarn events. Jumping on the bandwagon, I have decided to knit a sweater for the festival. I am also working on a gift sweater which needs to be completed before the trip, in order for me to hand deliver it. That is right, I am knitting two sweaters for Edinburgh. I am just that crazy. Lol.

The one sweater is mostly done just doing the sleeves. I have to ripped the bottom out because the sweater has to be a little longer. I realized that blocking will not help alot. The plan is to finish the sleeves and then rip back. It should be a fun learning experiment.

The sweater I am knitting for myself is the Super Bulky Grandpa sweater, by Joji Locatelli. This is my second Locatelli sweater. I love it. I love the color I chose, the yarn, and they way this pattern is working up. I love her patterns because they are simple yet complex. They challenge you but do not make it completely like rocket science. I will probably have a collection of Locatelli sweaters in a few years. I feel my gauge is off a little bit; I couldn’t find the exact gauge between two needle sizes. I went with the smaller needles because they are easier to handle. But so far it is knitting up quickly and awesome. It makes the trip so much more special and real. It has been surreal that I will be going to Scotland and a yarn festival. Crazy. Below are pictures of my progress:

Have you been to a Yarn Festival? Did you enjoy it? What were you looking forward too? Any tips?

I am saving my button reveal later because they are so cute and make it a true yarn fest sweater. See you Wednesday for more updates!

Big DAY!!! WIP Wednesday!

Hey Everyone its WIP Wednesday!!! But today is also very special, I started my first Ravelry Knitting group to go along with this blog. So exciting… so scary!! But I wanted to connected with readers and Ravelry friends where we can knit together and talk trash, lol. Here is the link to the Ravelry page: Confessions of Lefty knitter

Please Join!!

As you know, I am on my sweater journey. I started my two gift projects, the Cubes Pullover and the Ginny Cardigan.

I have finished the ribbing for the Ginny Cardigan and put in my lifeline. I will be starting the body and the lace chart soon. The pattern is interesting and is worked back and forth. This will be the first time I have ever worked a chart back and forth. Before I start the body, I think I might swatch/practice knit the chart.

In the meantime, I have jumped right into colorwork! I have been watching colorwork videos, for about two months learning both the right-handed and left-handed techniques to prepare for sweaters, I want to knit. I swatched the sweater for gauge and practice the colorwork. I figured out my technique and realized that when reading the chart back and forth, I need to alternate sides of the chart i.e. Wrong Side (ws) left to right and Right Side (rs) right to left. But the true test will be with the Ginny Cardigan.

But I am obsessed with the colorwork sweater! I can’t seem to put it down. The yarn is Schulana Accordion which is discontinued (sad so so sad) and a dream to work with! It is 80% Merino and 20% Mohair. The color work is so interesting and a lot easier than I thought! However, because I am a lefty and a thrower it is hard to hold two yarns and throw at the same time. I will need to work on how to become faster and more efficient with my yarn-holding, but I enjoy the slow knit. On the contrary, because it is a bulky weight sweater and I can’t seem to stop working on this sweater is going by super fast. More than halfway through the chart.

I am also working on a hat for instant gratification, but I haven’t done much with it as I am working on these sweaters. Well…that is it for WIP Wednesday! I will post pictures next week but check out the links for picture and note progress. Enjoy!

I also got buttons for my Jacqueline Sweater and a metal gauge plate.  This shop is amazing!! It just opened 5 months ago..  the owner is super nice and down the earth (very hippy chic). The shop has so much yarn it is ridicules (OMG). It also has bulky yarn and so much sale yarn, it is out the ying-yang. I will never have to shop online because of this shop. She is just starting to get her foot off the ground, as far as marketing, and for now she only has Facebook and a knit map mention. Here are the pictures of the buttons and gauge plate.
